Maraschino is a liqueur obtained from the distillation of cherries. It is a typical product of Dalmatia where its production began in the 19th century in Zadar.
The fruits are crushed together with a stone, then they are fermented with the addition of wine and marasca cherry leaves. It tastes in fact of cherry and has an alcohol content of 35-38°. The maraschino has a white color with straw yellow reflections and it is widely used either as a dessert liqueur or as an ingredient in pastry-making to flavour fruit salads.
