The arbutus, commonly called strawberry tree, is an evergreen shrub of the Ericaceae family that grows wild in Italy, especially in the Mediterranean area. The fruit - also called Albatra - is a globular berry with a rather thick bright red skin, studded with many growths that make it thorny. The pulp is yellow, a little grainy and slightly acidic. The fruits of the strawberry tree are excellent eaten fresh, but are also used to make jams, syrups and drinks.
